Scientists from Omsk State Technical University (OmSTU) presented an innovative eco-friendly method for processing polymer containers used for storing petroleum products in the Arctic. The results of their development are published in the journal Physical Chemistry B.
Valery Trushlyakov, Professor of the Department of Aviation and Rocket Engineering at OmSTU, noted that the new method provides more efficient processing of material with a reduced amount of solid waste. The level of toxic carbon monoxide emissions is also significantly reduced. Hydrolysis products obtained in the processing process can be used in various industries.
Currently, a team of scientists is working on creating a laboratory prototype of a container recycling facility to test it and further refine it.
